This is a one of a kind Grizzly Sloyd hand forged from 52100 hard wearing ball bearing steel. Many years ago I made batches of large sloyd knives 4.5inches long and called them Grizzly Sloyds for their large size.
This knife pays homage to those original blades while being the culmination of many more years of experience and expertise in the craft.
This blade is 4.5inches long and features a distal taper from 9/64ths of an inch down to 1/16th. This results in wide flat bevels near the handle for powerful planing cuts and short bevels at the tip of the blade for added control around corners and details. The bevel is a 27° flat over hollow grind.
The handle is figured pecan wood from a log that I rescued from the side of the road after a hurricane destroyed many orchards near my home. I milled the log myself into boards that could one day be used for handles of which this is the first.
